3a. Spirit of the Prairie Art and Teaching Studio

Doreen Kalmakoff, B.Ed.

Colorful flowers, shady lawns and mosaic murals welcome visitors to this country studio. Doreen teaches and works in a variety of media. Her works range in size from miniature paintings to large-scale murals, which decorate the interior of her studio as well as the communities of Blaine Lake and Marcelin. Functional artworks in the form of mosaic tables, painted chairs, art trays, decorative canvas floor mats as well as a variety of paintings, art cards and art prints add to the colorful display. While humor and narrative invite the viewer to enjoy the characters in her portraits, her still life and landscapes clearly establish a nostalgic mood. Visitors are welcome to participate in a mosaic project both days. Snacks, beverages and picnic tables are available on site.

Located 5 km north of Blaine Lake on Hwy 40, 1 km east on Township Road 452, south 1.5 km. Open until 8:00 p.m. both days.
