Joan’s interest in painting began with oils in the 1970’s. She tried acrylics in 2002, painting winter scenes of landscapes, old buildings and of course, the wildlife. She received high awards for 2005 and 2006 wildlife paintings at the Saskatchewan Wildlife Art Competition in Saskatoon. In 2005, she was commissioned to paint three paintings for the Northern Lights Casino in Prince Albert. One is still on display after three years. In 2008, she was invited to exhibit at the Red Roof Gallery in Athabasca, Alberta. Les, Joan’s husband, creates all the frames for her work out of oak, spruce and original barn wood. He also does commissioned matting and framing.
